Born on January 1st, 1919, Vincent Saint-Simon didn't often get out of the house until about 1982. During that period he mostly talked to friends who would come to visit and trimmed his beard. After leaving the house, Vincent discovered books, and also that he wasn't very good at reading them. While others on subways and in pool halls were able to finish books in the course of a day, Vincent was forced to take about three uninterrupted days to finish about one hundred pages. To this day, he is still afflicted with this ailment.
Despite his handicap, Vincent still spends much of his time attempting to read. After befriending McPherson the Dinosaur, Vincent was persuaded to join the RE: artist collective. Through McPherson, Vincent also met Hildegaard P. Alligator and was so enchanted that he was called to start The Awkward Alligator with another Hildegaard admirer, Nikki. The two of them met many friends and had many adventures.
RE: is for play, serious and otherwise.
Created and maintained as a collective, its efforts are in support of significant work - textual, visual, or both. Work that is often marginalized or ignored outright by established institutions.
Our ongoing projects include The Awkward Alligator, the Excerpts page, The Wish Tank, and several pieces of mail art. Each is unique in the expression and experimentation it affords. Experimentation in image, language, context, and culture.
Originality but also accessibility are essential to the discourse and community support we hope to create. The ability to do good work worth the risk and show decency towards others in their work are the only conditions for contribution.
